Lot 128: Jaguar MKX 4.2 Saloon
The MKX Jaguar was aimed squarley at the American market, taking on Cadillac and Lincoln from USA manufacturers, plus Mercedes and Bentley from Europe. It was the largest saloon car ever built by Jaguar offerering luxury accommodation for 6 adults yet still able to give spirited performance from the 3.8 and latterly 4.2 XK engines, with Triple 2" SU carburettors.
It may seem incongruous to some but the MKX shared its rear suspension with the E-Type. The independent rear suspension, inboard rear discs and quadrupal rear coil over shocks gave the MKX a fabulous ride and excellent stopping power.
Offered here is one of the first of the 4.2 equipped MKX's, which has been in the registered keepers ownership since 1970 and is thought to have had just one previous keeper. The indicated miles (93000) is thought to be almost certainly correct and the conditon would suggest this. It is said to have always beend maintained to the highest standards and the vendor draws attention to the detailed care of the underised of the car.
Finished in navy blue with grey leather interior, the car is equipped with the usual MKX options, which include power windows, 3-speed auto transmission, power steering, wood veneers and the welcome addition of a full length Webasto style sunroof.
What a way to travel to Le Mans Classic in July and Goodwood Revival in September in this the 75th anniversary og Jaguar Cars.
This is a late, replacement lot and will not appear in the printed catalogue. A late and/or replacement list is available on the day.
