Lot 111: BMW 1800
The BMW 1800 was launched in September 1963, with a 1773cc, 90 hp engine. Some interesting variations of the 1800 were the 1800 TI (18,417 units) and the rare 1800 TI/SA of which just 200 homologation specials were built. The 1800 TI was BMW's first step towards putting high performance variations of standard engines into the New Class cars. The 1800 TI had dual side-draft Solex carburettors, increased compression ratio and a beefed up suspension.
The model was produced from 1963 to 1972, there were 164,989 1800 built. In standard form, the 1800 had a top speed of 101 mph and a 0-60 time of 13 seconds. This example has had just one owner from new. Due to ill health, the car was laid up in 1986 and is complete with copies of all 13 MoT certificates from 1973 to 1986. The indicated 23000 miles is warranted as being correct and the interior is in as new condition. The engine bay is also described as mint and the bodywork is extremely original.
Probably unique, this forerunner of the 1602/2002, is finished in red with black interior and is of course eligible for free Historic Tax.
