Lot 614: 1964 Ford Zephyr Estate
With the introduction of the MkIII Zephyr/Zodiac for 1962, the Consul disappeared from the range, its place in the line up being taken by the four-cylinder Zephyr 4. The Zephyr 6 and Zodiac retained their predecessorsí 2,553cc six-cylinder engine, which had been revised and now produced more power the before. The convertible was dropped and the estate model reintroduced, after a short hiatus, in November 1962, manufactured, like before, by Abbott of Farnham. All MkIII estates used the Zodiac bodyshell and a total of only 1,632 were manufactured to Zephyr 6 specification for the home market between 1962 and 1966.
This rare Zephyr 6 estate has enjoyed only one registered keeper from new and retains its original registration mark. Sixteen expired MoTs come with this car, appearing to confirm the veracity of the circa 29,000 miles recorded on the odometer. The vehicle was completely restored by its previous owner between 2004 and 2005, the engine and gearbox being reconditioned, the bodywork stripped and repainted, the brightwork re-chromed and the braking system overhauled. Equipped with the four-speed, column-change, manual transmission, this prize-winning car is reported as driving almost as good as new, with slick gearchange and secure handling. It is offered with restoration invoices, road fund licence to August 2006, MoT to April 2006 and Swansea V5 and V5C documents.
