Lot 214: 1962 Marlin Roadster

Sports, Touring, Historic Road and Racing Cars, Coys (30 April 2006)

In 1974, the Marlin concept began as the first in a series of four specials. The purpose was to build a car capable of successfully competing in off road trials events, possess uncompromised road holding and handling. Both engine and driver were positioned well back to give a 50/50 weight distribution. Modeled on the 1930's Alfa Romeo racing car but based on 1964 Triumph Herald 1200 chassis, this two seater Marlin with alloy body was built in the early 1980's from a Triumph Herald using an original Marlin body kit. Fitted with an 1147cc Triumph engine breathing through Stromberg carbs, this car has handling and performance to match many period mainstream sports car rivals. This particular car is finished in Alfa Romeo red and is in excellent condition throughout with a new battery, dynamo and radiator. The car features a hood, frame, side screens, tonneau, alloy wheels, rear luggage rack and a unique detachable wood rim steering wheel all in good condition. Supplied with a V5, original Marlin brochures, plans and descriptions, this car also qualifies for Historic vehicle status.
