Lot 211: 1971 Fiat 850 Moretti Sportiva
This little car was sold new in 1971 to a British serviceman in Malta. The car remained there for at least 2 years until it was registered in London in 1973 and passed on to a new owner in 1974. Not much is known about the car until 1983 where the car was featured in the classic car press detailing its sale and resurfaced some years later in Wolverhampton. The present owner's daughter purchased the car but was sold in 1991. Fast forward nine years and the car was re-offered to the current vendor. It was at this point that the current owner decided upon a complete restoration, with the major body work carried out by Trentside Classics and the remaining work by Abarth specialist Berni Motori in Maleo, Italy. The list of the new parts fitted extends to several A4 pages and includes a zero-mile, off the shelf Autobianchi A112 Abarth power unit producing 75bhp in a car weighing only 660kg. The cars restoration has been well documented and featured as an article in Auto Italia. After a brief test at Berni Motori the Moretti was campaigned at the Val Saviore and Silver Flag hillclimbs in June 2006 with the car performing well. The car is now back in the UK and has been re-registered with a 1971 plate and accompanying documents. This Moretti is offered in very good condition and is something slightly different that can be used on sprints and hillclimbs.
