The Barracuda was one of several sporty compact cars of the early mid-1960s that became known as 'Pony Cars' after the Ford Mustang. Although outsold by the Mustang, the Barracuda hit the streets two weeks earlier. Based on the 'A-body' Plymouth Valliant, the Barracuda carried Valliant Badging for the first year, these being dropped for the '65 model year. For 1967 the body was completely restyled and, although the Barracuda shared components with the 'A-body' cars, it now had its own clothes and these second generation cars included convertibles, fastbacks and notchback hardtops.From the first year of the second generation 'Cuda, this example is of the rarer 'notchback' coupé version, much favoured for drag racing in period, and is fitted with the even rarer 383 cu-in (6.3-litre) 'Golden Commando' big block V8. It is restored to a high standard with the engine boasting a 509 hydraulic cam, 915 heads, Keith Black Silv-O-Lite pistons, Hemi oil pan, steel crank and with the block decked to zero and overbored by .045, while the transmission features a Hughes 'high-stall' torque converter and 355 rear axle. Much attention to detail was paid during the car's restoration and it bristles with goodies. The interior is trimmed in a contrasting off-white material and is complete with floor shifter. The exterior is stunningly finished in black with a red and blue side flash, set off by a set of aluminium racing wheels.
