Lot 131: Jaguar MKII 3.8 Saloon
It is hard to believe that 50 years have passed since the launch of the Jaguar MKII. It is even more remarkable to note that demand for this Iconic classic remains undiminished, with specialists offering modernised versions for 50,000+ and restored, unmodified cars, still achieving high values. The styling of the MKII is timeless, the performance is more than adequate and ownership is made simple via a huge spares and specialist repair network.
The most desirable specification was the manual with overdrive, as this meant that the sporting driver could fully explore the performance of this sports saloon and emulate the exploits of Clarke, Moss, Hawthorn and other racing drivers of the day. The MKII ruled the roost in Touring Car Racing until the big American Galaxies came along with their huge V8 engines and relatively light weight.
The most desirable MKII is the 3.8 with manual + overdrive transmission, which is exactly what we have here. Those of a certain age will remember the exploits of Jim Clark, Roy Salvadori, Mike Hawthorn and many others behind the wheel of the 3.8 MKII, when they ruled the roost in touring car racing
This example is said to have had just three owners from new and is described as having benefited from restoration of the bodywork and is said to be mechanically sound.
Finished in Jaguar Racing Green with the original, sage green leather interior, the car is offered complete with the original log book.
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the model with this classic MKII. It has the right engine and transmission, sits on chrome wire wheels and has had just 3 owners.
