Lot 040: Austin Mini One

Classic Car, Motorcycle & Automobilia, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (24 June 2009)

Introduced in 2001, the BMW Mini One was conceived as a spiritual successor to the original much-loved Mini but in reality was light years ahead of it in terms of performance, build quality, safety and refinement. A thoroughly modern car in every way, it was powered by a 90bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with drive-by-wire electronic throttle control, electronic brakeforce distribution and electronic stability control to improve handling in adverse situations. Still a hoot to drive, it had fantastically quick steering and superb body composure that remained faithful to the go-kart quality of the original even though it was actually twice as heavy!

Dating from 2005, this particular Mini was bought as a birthday present for a rather lucky lady by her dad. It was made to special order by BMW and is believed by the vendor to have been the only factory-painted pink Mini then on the road. It is packed with every single available factory option apart from built-in satnav. It comes with a highly appropriate PINK R number plate. A real eye-catcher in many ways, it would make a superb promotional vehicle - or a nice birthday present if you are feeling especially generous!
