Lot 313: Ford Capri Competition
Built by CC Racing for the 'Capri-meister' himself, none other than multiple touring car Champion Gordon Spice, as a Group 1 car and subsequently modified to 'Mod-saloon'/Group 2 specification which has been currently campaigned in endurance races throughout Europe and is a frequent class winner. The original Group1 body panels are supplied with the car to convert it back to the original specification if required. The car is believed to be the Motorcraft car featured on the front of "Life of Spice, Gordon Spice's autobiography. Fitted to the car is a full RS body kit with Zakspeed front spoiler and splitter and perspex side and rear windows. The engine is a fully bored and stroked 3.5 litre Essex V6 with steel crank, Arias pistons (newly fitted in 2007), lightweight flywheel and AP 'hub' type racing clutch (recently overhauled by AP). The engine is also fully balanced with Kent "High Torque racing camshaft, fully ported big valve heads, wire ringed block, big diameter racing exhaust manifold, and fed via triple Weber DCNF carburettors. A Brise long-range foam filled aluminium fuel tank is fitted along with a new Brise 'double pass' fully ducted radiator with electric fan. Putting the power to the wheels is a 4 speed Type 5 gearbox with Quaife straight cut close ratio gears and to bring the car to a stop is AP Racing 4 piston callipers on Brembo 304mm vented discs up front with AP Racing 2 piston callipers on 10 discs at the rear. The car is supplied with a comprehensive package of wheels including 4 sets mounted with Avon slicks and 5 Revolutions with nearly new Toyo tyres and 4 Compomotive wheels with Avon wet weather tyres. Described by the vendor as being in good overall condition, this Capri is ready to hit the track and is comes complete with an MSA log book, roll cage certificate and fuel tank certificate necessary for racing abroad.
