Lot 327: Audi S1 Quatto Competition
The Audi marque is synonymous with well built, reliable and high performing road and racing cars both today and in seasons gone past. It is no surprise then that modern Audis have always been popular with the club racing scene. Raced on hillclimbs and sprints with success during the 2008/9 season and 100% reliable during that time, this superbly prepared (both inside and out) 1991 5-cylinder car is now available offering startling performance and a sound track worthy of the Valkyries. Bored and stroked to 2½ litres with a new crank, forged and balanced rods with JE pistons, ARP bolts and fully ported & matched 20 valve head, the engine and transmission has had much work done. Injection is by way of 7A high-lift cams, RS2 manifold, injectors and intercooler and a hybrid GT3230 KKK/Garrett full roller bearing turbo and MTM ECU to match. All hoses are Aeroquip or Samco hoses with a new alternator, water pump, belts, mounts and high-performance coil. The car was all fully rebuilt in 2009 by Jeff White of AM Cars and mostly maintained by them since. The chassis set-up plan was made by the late, great Allan Staniforth with lowered stiffer springs, Bilstein dampers front and rear, adjustable anti-roll bars, cross brace, new polybushes and a revised geometry. This is not just a hot hatch, however; time and thought have gone into the preparation with all brake and fuel lines plumbed inside the shell, the braking takes place through grooved discs, EBC 'Red' & 'Green' Stuff brake pads and competition brake fluid. Power reaches tarmac through 17 MAK 17 spoke alloy wheels with recent Bridgestone 245/40-17 RE 050A tyres (160 treadwear rating), including two spare tyres/wheels and a further six spare tyres. The cage is a 6-point Weichers roll-cage with diagonal side bars and FIA-spec padding. Sparco Evo Plus driver's seat, Cobra Monaco passenger seat, full broad harnesses including a five-point driver's (ex-Marcus Gronholm), raised foot-plate & foot-rest; Sparco pedals and fire extinguisher. Taxed until August 2010 with an MoT test certificate to April 2010; MSA log-book; timing strut and fully compliant with MSA Road-going Speed regulations, this fully specced hillclimb/sprint car is fully road legal and comes complete with a comprehensive spares package included. This is a well priced and competitive track, rally or road car with good quality backup and documentation.
