Lot 335: Porsche 911
One of the all time great sports cars, the Porsche 911 has become a legend on both road and track during an illustrious career spanning over three decades and is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. Over the years the monocoque 911 with its independent torsion bar front and trailing arm rear suspension, and superb air-cooled flat-six cylinder engine, grew in engine capacity and power, and its derivatives remain dominant in competition. Today as then the 911 is a powerful force in modern production based racing classes as it is in the historic classes of racing.
This historic rally car was manufactured in 1970 and has had extensive modifications in the last few years carried out by Porsche specialists JAZ, including an engine rebuild from 911T spec (120hp) to 911S spec with 180hp fed via Weber carburettors, as opposed to mechanical fuel injection. Putting the power down to the road has been improved with upgraded Bilstien gas struts as opposed to Koni as standard. In addition, all suspension arms have been replaced as well as all replaceable bushings and anti roll bars fitted front and rear, using original manufacturer's parts with the brakes upgraded to 911SC specification.
Safety equipment includes a full Appendix "K roll cage, plumbed in fire protection with an internal/external operating switch and single handheld fire bottle and an emergency battery isolator switch. The interior is a welcome place to spend gruelling hours at the wheel as it has been completely re-trimmed with leather period 'rally' seats, new carpet and headliner while 4 point harnesses keeps you and your co-driver secure. Navigation aids include a Brantz retrotrip which has been fitted to log total and split mileage along with a switchable map reading light. Also supplied with the car are Cibie front spotlights, one set (4) of original Fuchs wheels and one set (4) reproduction Fuchs as well as one set (4) of winter tyres and one set (4) Yokohama track / road tyres as well as an FIA Historic Technical Passport appendix "K certification, serving to underline its racing credentials. Comes complete with all original invoices for the work carried out above, as well as V5 document andMoT certificate valid until March 2010. This high quality competitive Porsche 911 is on the button and eligible for a whole host of historic events.
