- One of only 195 Phantom Vs with elegant James Young coachwork - Highly maintained, with excellent bodywork and a restored interior

In 1959, the Rolls-Royce Phantom V debuted alongside the Silver Cloud II, powered by the new 6,230-cc aluminum V-8. The Phantom V was considerably larger than the prior Silver Wraith, and despite its impressive dimensions, road testers praised the Phantom V for its ability to cruise in excess of 100 mph over long distances in near-total silence.

Phantom V production continued through 1968 with just 581 produced, including 195 with handsome A.F. McNeill-designed custom coachwork by James Young. Three James Young-bodied versions were offered, including a seven-passenger limousine, a touring limousine and a Sedanca deVille.

This 1961 Phantom V Limousine, chassis 5LBV27, is an original left-hand drive example with approximately 58,300 miles that are believed original. The remarkably straight bodywork reveals virtually perfect panel fit and alignment, with no evidence of prior damage or rust. Champagne pinstriping, excellent brightwork, maroon wheels and whitewall tires complement the two-tone champagne and maroon finish. The restored interior is trimmed in magnolia hides with maroon piping, maroon carpeting and sheepskin over carpeting at the rear. All power windows have been inspected, refurbished and lubricated and are quick and quiet in their operation. The interior woodwork is a true highlight, with only some hazing and cracking noted above the rear jump seats. The carpeted trunk is finished as standard and equipped with a spare tire, an original-style jack, jack handle and crank, a battery disconnect, a manual tire pump and more.

With no known mechanical flaws, this Phantom V has been driven recently at speeds of 80-90 mph in near-total silence. The brakes truly inspire confidence in the driver. Impressively preserved and well maintained, this is certainly one of the grandest and most rare bespoke Rolls-Royce limousines ever built.
