Chevrolet built more than 260,000 Styleline Deluxe two-door sedans in 1951. This one, however, has star qualities, the result of a supporting cinema role. Chevrolet's new-for-1949 body was in its final season in 1952, although the basic structure would last through 1954. Updates over the years had been evolutionary, mostly in trim detail. Chevy was the undisputed king of the U.S. auto market, however, so a Styleline Deluxe in any Midwestern movie set was entirely appropriate.

This car reportedly appeared with Gene Hackman, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper in the 1986 film Hoosiers. A box office hit, Hoosiers was nominated for two Academy Awards and a Golden Globe. It won a special achievement award at the Heartland Film Festival, and Hopper was named Best Supporting Actor by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. The car was acquired by its owner at a charity dinner for the ACD Museum and was presented as such during the auction.

A largely original car, this Styleline Deluxe has been selectively freshened, perhaps for its movie appearance. Originally a shade of green, it has been attractively repainted in two-tone grey, dark over light. The car has correct factory fender skirts, and it is fitted with an archetypal period windshield visor. The odometer shows about 91,000 miles, which seems appropriate but is unverified. This car could be left as is but alternately would serve as an excellent basis for a complete restoration. Regardless of its future, it is a delightful piece of movie history, complete with a frame of newspaper clippings about the movie.
