Lot 356: Lincoln Capri Street Rod
*454ci Chevrolet V8 *Automatic transmission
*Tastefully customized *Full power accessories
Appearances suggest it was a Cadillac world in 1955. GM's flagship brand had all the innovations that the rest of the industry copied: Fins, high compression engines, hardtop bodystyle, and wrap-around windshield. Lincoln was in the shadow of Cadillac's juggernaut, but that's not to say the brand was lacking in any manner.
With a 1952 redesign, Lincoln shed its outdated body for a trim physique and new overhead-valve V-8. Additional news was a ball-joint front suspension for improved ride and handling. Lincoln's new-found roadability was put to good use in the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico, which resulted in first- through fourth-place finishes in its class.
This mildly customized 1955 Capri two-door hardtop captures the spirit of both the race and the era. Painted two-tone Dark Sapphire Blue with cream top and powered by a 454-cid Chevrolet big block V-8, this Lincoln looks straight out of the late-1950s with Appleton spotlights, Lake side pipes, Cadillac wheelcovers, and subtle flames. Inside there's full power accessories including air conditioning and a GM tilt steering column, all complemented by a custom dashboard with aftermarket gauges. A thoroughly usable custom, this is the perfect way to embrace Lincoln's and hot rodding's spirit.
