Lot 067: Mercedes-Benz 230-4

Classic & Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (16 May 2012)

Launched to replace the iconic W110 Fintail saloons, the all new 114/5 series was the first "all new" Mercedes-Benz to appear post war. It arrived in 1968 with a fresh clean look styled by Paul Bracq, mastermind behind the georgous Pagoda top SLs and the massive 600 Grosser. It was freshened up in 1973 with a lower bonnet line and a wider and lower grille, whilst an elegant coupe was also available alongside. Over 1.8 million were built as saloons with nearly 88,000 of these high quality models sold with the 2.3-litre 4-cylinder engine as fitted to this lovely one owner car on sale today. Purchased by the vendor's father back in 1974 from the main Mercedes-Benz dealer in Gorseinon, Swansea, it has been maintained by the vendor's local garage ever since. With just 67,500 miles under its tyres and just the odd touch up here and there, it looks in lovely original condition. The vendor has used it for family weddings and has kept the car in very good condition, treating it to regular waxoiling. It has just had two new tyres fitted for its MOT which expires in April 2013, has a handy tow bar, power steering and comes with its original hand book. Often overlooked in favour of the more glamorous coupes and convertibles, these elegant, practical and reliable saloons make superb everyday classics. This fine, low mileage, one owner example should have many years of useful life ahead of it..
