Lot 109: Maserati Quattroporte Evoluzione IV
Maserati's first four door model made its debut in 1963. The new car, known unsurprisinglyas the Quattroporte - four doors in Italian - had a graceful saloon body styled by Frua and was powered by a 4.1 litre V8 engine featuring four camshafts and four Weber carburettors, while there was a choice of manual or automatic transmission. As could be expected from a car of such pedigree, it attracted the rich and famous as buyers, among them the Shah of Iran and Sir Peter Ustinov.
The fourth version of the Maserati Quattroporte was released in Italy in 1994, initially with a 2 litre V6 and then in the same year by the 2.8 option. The 3.2 litre V8 Quattroporte was released the following year in 1995; all three versions continued in production until the end of 1997 when the factory was closed for refurbishing by new owners, Ferrari. Following the factory opening in May 1998 the Quattroporte models that were built were known as 'Evoluzione' versions as offered here.
The Quattroporte was designed by Marcello Gandini as an ultimate luxury fast grand tourer, and the V8 version certainly did not disappoint. With a 3.2 litre quad cam V8 twin turbo engine delivering 335 hp the car has exhilarating performance, and with an extensive list of extras it has more refinements than the bridal suite of a Milan Hotel.
Described to the vendor to be in perfect condition this Maserati was owned from new by Meridien Modena, Lyndhurst. Less than 50 additional miles have been put on by the current vendor, and the car still remains under their care contract.
With an MoT every February , renewed now until 2013, this stunning Maserati finished in silver with black hide must be totally unique. The world's best, described to be excellent in every respect and not to be missed.
