Lot 124: Bentley Continental Convertible

Fine Motor cars incl. The Jaguar Legend, Coys (14 July 2012)

The arrival of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow and Bentley T series in late 1965 marked a major change for Rolls-Royce Motors; previously the products of Crewe had employed separate chassis but here was a car of modern design employing unitary construction of chassis and body. Underneath the skin the new Rolls-Royce/Bentley offered even greater engineering excellence and sophistication. The model was an instant success, and production boomed. In 1969 the engine capacity was increased to 6,750cc, and a modern three-speed automatic gearbox was introduced. Two years later, in 1971, the two door coupé and drophead models coachbuilt by H J Mulliner Park Ward, were renamed Corniche. The designation 'Continental' had been used for some of Bentleys finest creations in the 50's and 60's and in 1984 the term was resurrected in the form of the Bentley Continental Convertible. The car on offer today is finished in dark blue coachwork with magnolia leather interior. H890 TLS is described by the vendor in very good overall condition. The car was re-commissioned in recent years by Frank Dale and Stepsons with a new dark blue mohair hood, and was most recently serviced in their workshops. Used on a variety of rallies, including some long distance trips abroad, H890 TLS is described to have performed with distinction. It comes with all of its original books and tools including its fully stamped service book.
