Lot 143: Jaguar XJR-S

Fine Motor cars incl. The Jaguar Legend, Coys (14 July 2012)

After winning the 1984 European Touring Car Championship at the wheel of an XJ-S, Tom Walkinshaw of TWR was commissioned to give the road-going XJR a performance makeover. In 1988 the factory made an official model incorporating Walkinshaw's enhancements. His company JaguarSport (or TWR), was already producing body and suspension kits for the XJ-S which were available for separate order.

Each car left the TWR factory as individually built cars. Options such as the body kit, quick-shift gearbox, ventilated discs and four-pot brake callipers along with stiffer suspension, lowered ride height, re-calibrated power steering and a Momo steering wheel were available.

Both a 5.3 litre and 6.0 litre engine were available in the car. Since the engines look almost identical, it's hard to differentiate between the two. In either case a genuine TWR car is hard to come by, as in three years of production a little over 600 cars were manufactured.

This stunning 6.0 Litre XJR-S is finished in Artic Blue metallic with complementary magnolia hide. Described by the vendor to be in excellent overall condition, G6 XJR has covered a mere 22,000 miles from new. It comes complete with a history file containing some old MoT's, a very rare XJR-S catalogue and enthusiast club folder. Supplied with the cherished number G6 XJR, this XJR-S benefits from a newly fitted exhaust, rear dampers and rebuilt brake callipers.

A very special Jaguar indeed, with believed only 600 cars built- this has to be one of the lowest mileage XJR-S in existence.
