Lot 149: Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Litre Roadster
t was not just the sensational beauty of the Malcolm Sayer/William Lyons designed body that caused the furore surrounding the launch of the E-Type Jaguar at the 1961 Geneva Salon, a design that they would have had us believe was purely the result of mathematical equations to optimise the cars aerodynamic efficiency.
All the promise of its looks were confirmed by independent road test results that not only recorded the 150mph top speed, but also 0-60mph and 0-l00mph in 6.9 and 16.2 seconds respectively; fast indeed, and well into the territory of Italian exotica, but at half the cost of the equivalent Aston Martin and without the associated concerns over everyday reliability.
This original right hand drive UK car was manufactured in 1962 and is an early example, being only the 426th car produced. In 2010-2011 the car underwent a full bare metal re-spray and is described as being now in very good condition with the bright work described as excellent.
With the original chassis, engine and gearbox this is a fine example of Jaguars iconic E-Type and is supplied with a V5 document, Heritage Certificate, a fresh MoT certificate, invoices and a file of photographs documenting the work carried out, which shows the high standard achieved.
It is apparent that a lot of time has been spent detailing this car, and such attention is evident at first sight, making this desirable version of the timeless E type a stunning example of one of the most desirable cars ever built.
