Lot 193: MG TF
The TF Midget, launched in 1953,was a face lifted TD, fitted with the TD Mark II engine, headlights faired into the fenders, a sloping radiator grille and a new pressurized cooling system along with a simulated external radiator cap.
This MG TF was produced on the 8th April 1954, originally finished in black, the car was built for RHD export. The vendor informs us the car was shipped to Sri Lanka where it remained until the early 1980's, where it was owned by a Colonne in Mount Lavinia. Evidence in the car's file show that it was shipped to California, where Daniel Hotz of Torrance took over its keep. A hand written bill of sale confirms the car was sold to a Dr Richard Greaves on the 7th December 1987. According to the vendor, Greaves spent a lot of time and money getting the car right- and when he was forced to emigrate to Switzerland for contractual reasons in 1989, the MG was shipped too!
Bills on file show the car must have been subject to extensive mechanical work before it finally went back on the road in May 1990. Receipts for an engine rebuilt, along with further extensive work exceeded the cost of 20,000! Dr Greaves returned the car to England and registered it with the present registration number GSK 593. The car then changed hands and became the property of a Mr Roy Ramsbottom who kept the car in dry storage for eight years. It was bought by a director of a local garage in 2000 and changed into the current vendor's possession in 2006.
Since the current vendors ownership, GSK 593 has covered around 8,500 miles. During this time the engine has once again been rebuilt by Peter Edney and the instrumentation has been properly calibrated.
Offered with a very good history back until 1982 and with UK V5 registration papers, GSK 593 is offered with a very sensible reserve.
