Lot 218: Williams Renault Clio
In 1993 Renault launched the Clio Williams as a limited edition of 3,800 cars (1,300 more than they needed for homologation purposes) with each car bearing a numbered plaque on the dash. These sold out so quickly that Renault ended up building 1,600 more.
The car was named after the then Renault-powered Formula One team WilliamsF1, and the modifications to the Clio 16S on which it was based were the work of Renault Sport, Renault's motorsport division.
The 2.0 litre 16-valve straight-4 engine is rated at 150 PS giving the car a top speed of 134 mph, with performance-tuned ride and handling. Renault later released the Williams 2 and Williams 3 special editions, much to the chagrin of those owners who had been assured of the exclusivity of the original Williams.
Finished in the correct 449 Sports Blue and with a matching blue interior, this charming little car was voted 6th in 'the best top ten drivers cars' by Evo Magazine for cars from the 1990s. Supplied with UK V5 registration papers and 12 months MoT this pocket rocket is offered at No Reserve.
