Lot 103a: Willys Jeep

Goodwood Revival Sale, Bonhams (15 September 2012)

This Willys Jeep is believed to have been purchased by a US Air Force lieutenant in Europe in 1947 and brought back to the USA, remaining in the State of Dakota for the next 60-plus years. In approximately April 2010 the Jeep was sold to a private buyer and shipped to the UK where it was purchased from the shipper by the immediately preceding owner, Mr Steven Wesley. Mr Wesley commissioned an extensive 'last nut and bolt' restoration, which was undertaken by specialist classic car restorers Roberts Motor Bodies Ltd of Walkley, Sheffield. The engine rebuild was entrusted to specialist Ian Tubs of Lincoln, and the Jeep repainted in its original livery of US Navy blue/grey. We understand that Roberts Motor Bodies' proprietor has confirmed that Mr Wesley spent some 30,000 on the restoration, though bills on file total only approximately 11,000. Since completion circa November 2011, the Jeep has covered only 130 miles and is said to start first time and drive very smoothly, its engine running quietly. Offered with current MoT/tax and Swansea V5C - ready to be driven and enjoyed - this would be ideal 'period' transport for the Goodwood Revival meeting.
