Lot 116: Chevrolet Special DeLuxe Business Coupe

The Charlie Thomas Collection 2012, RM Auctions (20 October 2012)

90 hp, 216.5 cu. in. inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed sliding gear transmission with column-mounted shift lever and semi floating rear axle, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 116 in. In 1941, Spencer Tracy was selected as America's favorite movie star, and as part of a Chevrolet promotional contest, he was given a new 1941 Chevrolet. There were many improvements and additional standard equipment for the 1941 Special DeLuxe, including a deluxe steering wheel with a horn ring, stainless steel hood moldings, and window reveal moldings, as well as a chromed license plate lamp. The prior Texas owner of this example touted this car as having under 10,000 original miles. It is clear that several areas have been attended to cosmetically, primarily the engine compartment with quality painted surfaces. Having been stored in a humidity controlled garage for years, the car is remarkably solid. Possibly the best part is the passenger compartment, with rich tan and brown cord upholstery, beautiful wood grain dash and window moldings, and accessories, which include a radio and a Super DeLuxe heater/defrost system. This attractive pre-war Chevy should not be overlooked.
