Lot 459: MV Agusta F4 Serie Oro

Grand Palais Sale, Bonhams (7 February 2013)

This MV Agusta F4 Serie Oro was owned from new by the late chairman of the MV Agusta Owners Club of Great Britain, Mr Alan Elderton. Supplied via Three Cross Motorcycles in March 2000, it is number '294' of only 300 Serie Oro models built to mark the re-launch of the MV Agusta brand and one of only 21 official UK-supplied examples. Costing around 23,000 in the UK when launched (approximately 35,000 at that time) the Serie Oro was twice as expensive as the standard F4 Strada yet every single one had been sold prior to delivery, such was the demand. Most of the Oro's miles were covered in the first 18 months of Alan's ownership, with 780 (1,256 kilometres) being recorded at the second service in September 2001. It then remained virtually unused until May 2008, by which time only 831 miles (1,260 kilometres) had been recorded. In May 2008 Alan received a request from 15-time World Champion Giacomo Agostini to borrow his Serie Oro to ride around the Isle of Man TT course for a documentary he was working on for the television station Moto TV together with another former World Champion, Marco Lucchinelli (see copies of photographs on file). Subsequently, mirror casings and photographs were signed by both riders and the handbooks by Agostini alone. Sadly, Alan Elderton, founder member of the MV Agusta Owners Club of GB and its chairman since 1998, passed away in November 2009. The current vendor acquired the Serie Oro from Alan's widow, Kaye in November 2010, at which time the odometer reading was 925 miles (1,490 kilometres). In December 2010 the machine was fully serviced by MV Agusta authorised dealership Forza Italia. In addition, the alarm system installed by Three Cross was removed, a new battery fitted and the motorcycle started for the first time since its return from the Isle of Man. The vendor has ridden the MV on only two occasions: firstly in September 2011 to take the photographs seen here and secondly on May 29th 2012 for its last MoT test. While in the current ownership the MV has been kept on showroom display, supported on twin paddock stands (to conserve the tyres). The battery is charged every month and the engine started and taken up to normal running temperature (and the brakes operated) every other month. The current odometer reading is only 955 miles (1,540 kilometres). Presented in superb condition, the machine is offered with a large folder of history, correspondence, handbooks, magazine articles, photographs and UK V5C registration document. (It should be noted that the registration 'A14 ORO' is being retained by the vendor). An exciting opportunity to acquire a fully documented, little used example of this most collectible of modern MVs.
