Lot 521: Detroit Electric Model 95 Type 24B coupé de Ville
For the marque history, please refer to lot 526. Unquestionably an interesting curiosity, in an era when so much interest is placed in alternative road power, such cars have become more fashionable again and in museums of the future could well become examples of an industry that came full circle. Mr. Brown had a definite soft spot for these electrics, owning a brace of them, this one dating from the period towards the end of their production, when their accoutrements were a little more austere, and wooden wheels were fitted. A perfect foil to the earlier car in the collection, this appears never to have been restored. It still retains its interior, albeit the cloth and brocades are somewhat tired and in need of attention, but the cabin seems complete and still has its correct instrument cluster and the period rear facing mirror incorporates a clock. This Electric received new batteries in the mid 1990s and was in use through to the mid-2000s, suggesting that it would not take much effort to have it back on the road.
