Lot 543: Ferrari 308GT Berlinetta
Introduced in 1975, the stunningly beautiful 308GTB, Ferrari's second V8-engined road car, marked a return to Pininfarina styling following the Bertone-designed 308GT4. Badged as a Ferrari rather than a Dino, the 308GTB had changed little mechanically apart from a reduction in both wheelbase and weight, retaining its predecessor's underpinnings and transversely mounted 3.0-litre quad-cam engine that now featured dry-sump lubrication. This superbly engineered power unit produced 255bhp, an output good enough to propel the 308GTB to over 250km/h. An exhilarating driver's car and a Ferrari purist's delight, the 308GTB and its derivatives proved a huge commercial success for Maranello with over 12,000 sold. Ex-Carrosserie Lecoq, this 308GTB was purchased by the current enthusiast owner in 2005 and has participated in the Rallye de Paris and various Ferrari gatherings. The car has benefited from periodic renovation at the hands of specialists such as Pozzi and Dino Sport, there being invoices on file for various works and routine maintenance totalling some 30,000. Recent works include a major service (in July 2012) when the cam belts were changed; the air conditioning and ignition systems serviced; and the engine converted to accept unleaded fuel. Finished in black with tan leather interior, the latter re-trimmed by Caribex in 2007, the car currently displays a total of 67,700 kilometres on the odometer and is described as in excellent condition. It is offered with the aforementioned invoices and French Carte Grise.
