Lot 37: Morris Minor 1000 Convertible
The vendor purchased this smart-looking right-hand drive Minor from renowned marque specialist Charles Ware's Morris Minor Centre of Bristol in 2009. It had started life in October 1962 as a Saloon, but was the subject of an Insurance Total Loss Payment in 1995, following which it was refashioned by Ware as a Convertible. He subsequently warrantied the chassis for three years and the mechanical components for one. The car's venerable 1098cc A Series engine was modified to run on unleaded fuel and the four-speed manual gearbox and back axle were reconditioned. In recent times the dynamo has very sensibly been replaced with an alternator, an electronic ignition system installed and the car Waxoyled by Charles Ware. The Morris was recently MOT'd, at which point it was apparently noted how clean and free of rust the underside was. The vendor informs us that he has used the Minor most days during his ownership, and found it to be extremely reliable. His total mileage has been 13,000, over which 'ALJ 642A' has reputedly averaged c.35mpg - a figure that wouldn't disgrace many a far more modern motor car. He has treated the Minor to regular services, the details of which have been added by hand to the handbook. He currently regards the bodywork, engine and gearbox as "excellent" and the paintwork and interior trim as "very good". The bodywork is finished in White and the interior trimmed in Red and White vinyl. The mighty Morris is both taxed and MOT'd into April of next year, and therefore seemingly ready to give a new keeper many months of cost effective, trouble-free motoring; hopefully in the sun.
