Lot 107: Morris Mini Traveller

6603 MC, a delightful example of the jaunty Mini Traveller, was purchased on the 24th April 1961for Mrs E.A Gordon, nee Gillespie, by her father. According to the original purchase documents included in the detailed history file it was purchased for 656.19.8d via Stewart and Arden Ltd., Acton, London, as a very generous present to be used by her for work and fun in and around London. Upon her marriage in 1964 the car was mistakenly re-registered into her husband's name, D.C Gordon; but it continued to be used and maintained by Mrs Gordon. In 1986, 6603 MC was in need of some refurbishment, and in July of that year the car was taken to Mr. John Timms of Contract Paints, Barton Stacey, Hants, where the work was carried out to original specification including engine servicing and the woodwork re-varnished. This was a relationship that would continue for a further 26 years; Mr Timms diligently maintained and where necessary repaired the car, including undersealing it on more than one occasion, as witness the many invoices included in the file. After the work was completed the little Mini was used on holidays abroad by the Gordons and after putting it on the plane to Ostend it was driven to Munich with three on board including luggage - which unsurprisingly necessitated the purchase of a roof rack. In later years the Mini was driven across Portugal and for many years it regularly ventured into Northern France, Belgium and Holland. On all these occasions, we are informed, the Mini performed well. The car is accompanied by a substantial history file which includes a current V5 document, original buff log book, original hire purchase agreement and purchase documents, Morris warranty, Motor Fuel Ration book, old tax discs and 20 old MoT certificates with the earliest dating to 12th January 1981. A recent full service and MoT was carried out in April earlier this year and we are informed by Mrs Gordon the car is in excellent condition throughout. Various bills and receipts for maintenance work and sundry items dating back to 1979 are also included and further original items include the original jack, tools and original drivers manual as well as a roof rack, spare front bumper, extra spare wheel, floor mats, dust sheet and electrical spares. Examples such as 6603 MC are few and far between. To find a 'one owner from new' car more than fifty years old, with all of the associated documentation, has to be a very rare find indeed& let alone being one of the most original and certainly one of the most loved and cherished examples of this utterly charming 1960s motor car.
