Lot 118: Bentley T2

HISTORIC COLLECTORS MOTORCARS, Coys (29 June 2013)

In 1965, Rolls-Royce, well aware that the S series had become dated, unveiled an entirely new model with a specification to silence even the most vociferous of denigrators. Appearing at the same time as the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow, the T type Bentley incorporated unitary construction - a completely new departure for the company, self levelling independent suspension, servo disc brakes all round, and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The well tried V8 was basically the same as it had been in the S.3, with a capacity of 6,230cc, raised compression increasing both power and performance. A host of sophisticated engineering devices were adapted, to give a car of very advanced technical specification and no effort was spared to reduce vibration; harmonic dampers were fitted to the propeller shaft and the entire engine, gearbox and rear suspension were mounted on their own sub frame, with the final drive unit carried on a flexibly mounted cross member. Each car underwent two thirty mile road tests before delivery. Craftsmen continued to use beautiful veneers, together with traditional deep pile Wilton carpet and leather upholstery, using eight hides to a car, and even built in quadraphonic sound! Yet beneath the sleek exterior, performance was remarkable. A rare example of the limited production left hand drive model of which less than 80 were left hand drive examples. Finished in shell grey over slate grey with a contrasting black hide interior and light grey headlining we are informed the car is in very good condition.Originally delivered new to the United States on October 3rd 1979, this exquisite 4 door saloon was formerly in the ownership of the late Steve Cucich, renowned publicist and producer representing many major movie stars and studios including paramount Pictures and 20th Century Fox. Mr Cucich was a native to Atlanta, Georgia where he maintained and kept his collection of British built cars including the Bentley. Due to ill health the car was used sparingly which is reflected in the low mileage of just over 35,000 miles. Supplied with four new tyres, EU Taxes paid documentation, a US Certificate of Title, build history, service records and MoT certificate valid until June next year this rare example will carry you many a mile in unrivalled grace, space and pace.
