Lot 142: Jaguar XJS 4.0 Convertible

HISTORIC COLLECTORS MOTORCARS, Coys (29 June 2013)

The XJS had been under development since 1968 and as a 2+2 fixed head coupe was intended as a replacement for the now legendary E-Type. From the beginning it was only available with the V12 engine which gave excellent performance with 0-60mph being dispatched in a very respectable 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 150mph. As with any vehicle that has had as long a production life as the XJS there have been major developments. Two of the more significant ones for the XJS were the launch of the cabriolet in 1983 and later in May 1988 the convertible. This convertible, manufactured in 1993 is finished in Flamenco red with a beige interior is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition. With the vendor for the last 4 years it has been kept in a dehumidified storage facility and only covered 1,000 dry miles in that time. Prior to his ownership it had been maintained regardless of expense and is supplied with a copy or the original service record containing 11 main dealer stamps, MoT certificates dating back to 2000 and a V5 document. The XJS convertible is an elegant and practical example of this most famous of marques. With E-Type prices, especially roadsters, reaching new highs surely the XJS convertible is an ideal candidate as an investment proposition.
