Lot 146: Daimler Double Six

HISTORIC COLLECTORS MOTORCARS, Coys (29 June 2013)

September 1961 saw a limousine version of the Majestic Major, the DR450, introduced, and this was to be the last all-Daimler car made. A deluxe version of the Jaguar 420, the Sovereign, was the next Daimler model, launched in October 1966, and this sold reasonably well over a three year production run; its chassis would be produced for the next 26 years as the DS420 limousine and hearse. By 1969, the only other remaining Daimler variant based on a Jaguar model was the XJ6, with either 2.8 or 4.2 litre XK six cylinder engines. In 1972, the 5.3 litre, V12 powered version was introduced and the Daimler Double Six name reappeared. Luxuriously trimmed by Vanden Plas, The Motor magazine declared it had better handling and high speed cruising ability than the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow at twice the price. This fine Daimler was supplied new by Stratstone Mayfair and first registered on 1st October 1990 and is believed to have been supplied new to a London Embassy and has spent most of its life in Chelsea. Boasting a full service history and has covered just 72,000 miles from new. Finished with black coachwork with magnolia hide and walnut veneer interior with air conditioning, the car looks magnificent in an identical livery to those cars used by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and as owned by Her Majesty The Queen. More recently used as an official London 2012 VIP car. Described as being in excellent condition the car is supplied with the desirable registration number 2 XKN, a full service history by reputable Jaguar Daimler specialists throughout, original manuals, V5 document, previous MoT's as well as a current example valid until June 2014. The bulging documentation that comes with this Daimler Double Six fully documents the low mileage and contains much evidence that this car must be one of the best and well known examples of its kind.
