Lot 006: MG B GT

Classic Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (27 November 2013)

Introduced in 1965, the Pininfarina styled MGB GT 2+2 was largely based on the convertible, but used a taller windscreen and new roof line. The MGB was an enormous success and its popularity has not diminished over the years thanks to its decent performance and the abundant supply of reasonably priced spare parts. This example has had just 3 previous owners. The vendor purchased it from a lady who had bought it back in 1986. A huge history file shows that during her ownership she replaced the inner and outer sills, bonnet and tailgate and that she had an unleaded head conversion fitted. The vendor hoped to have some summer fun with the car but decided to have it resprayed first as there were some minor splits to the paintwork on the roof which required attention. Unfortunately he arranged for a local to undertake the work, which it must be said is quite awful! This is such a shame as the vendor advises us that essentially the car is sound and had the work been done to an acceptable standard, or even not done at all, it would present much better than it does now. Having somewhat lost heart in the project, he intends to offer the car with a fresh MOT by the time of sale, asking that potential bidders look beyond the finish to the car hidden beneath!
