Lot 013: Range Rover Vogue SE

Classic Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (27 November 2013)

Introduced way back in 1970, the Range Rover was so fundamentally 'right' from the outset that it remained in production virtually unaltered for the next 25 years, getting a little bit more luxurious with each passing year. Designed by Spen King, the bodywork was not substantially redesigned until the second generation model of 1995, which also gained air suspension in place of the original coil-springs, greatly improving the handling. As familiar a part of the British street scene as the red pillar box, all versions are hugely capable machines that are equally at home on the motorway or the school run or clambering to the top of a mountain. First registered in August 1994, this Vogue SE has the later 182bhp 3.9-litre V8 petrol engine and is one of the last of the 'soft dash' models with the classic Range Rover body shape that was lost in the P38A models released the following year to the regret of many enthusiasts. Being a late model it benefits from the improved self-leveling air suspension that gave a more cosseting ride and improved road-holding compared to the previous coil-sprung models, all the air bags having been recently replaced. Ordered in top spec SE trim, it has lashings of wood and leather inside. With just four owners from new, it comes with an impeccable service history comprising no fewer than 32 service stamps in its 143,800 miles to date plus a vast file of supporting invoices. It was also treated to an Overfinch 7-seater conversion at 35,000 miles with additional fold-away seats to the rear. Other luxuries include heated front seats, a glass sunroof and ice-cold air conditioning. Supplied with all its original handbooks with MOT and tax to February 2014, it is said to be in exceptionally good condition throughout and is ready for a lucky fifth owner to drive away today.
