Lot 113: Porsche 911SC Targa

Classic Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (27 November 2013)

The mainstay of the Porsche range throughout the late Seventies, the 911 SC was unveiled at the Frankfurt Show in September 1977 and was available in either Coupe or Targa forms. Essentially this new 911 was very similar to the previous Carrera 3.0 with the same basic specifications, styling, and features. Power was up slightly from the previous 2.7 model, and a flatter torque curve made the car much easier to drive. In 1979 the SC's engine received modifications increasing the power to 188bhp while improving fuel economy by 10 percent. Further improvements in 1980 pushed the power up to 204bhp making it good for 145mph with the 0-60 dash coming up in 5.7 seconds. Simple, quick and bulletproof, the SC is widely regarded as one of the most user-friendly of all the 911 range and good ones are increasingly sought after. Dating from October 1982, this full-fat 204bhp model has the versatile targa top for snug winter motoring and open air thrills in the summer months. Finished in black with a black leather interior, it rides on the desirable Fuchs alloys and has the classic Porsche 'whale tail' spoiler on the back which provides reassuring downforce at the high speeds of which the car is capable. With some 142,000 miles under its wheels to date, the car is said to be in good order throughout, externally and internally with a recently refurbished targa top and very solid bodywork although there are a few areas that would benefit from minor cosmetic paintwork. Mechanically the car is said to be very good and to drive well: the engine pulls strongly with good oil pressure and no smoke or rattles; the gearbox is also good as are the brakes and the electrics. Supplied with a large history file, the car is MOTd until September 2014 with no advisories recorded and is only being sold because the vendor has now bought himself a much newer Porsche 997 the lucky feller!
