Lot 146: Fiat Coupe 2.0 20v

Classic Vintage Cars & Motorcycles, Brightwells Auctioneers and Valuers (27 November 2013)

THIS IS A LATE ENTRY AND WILL NOT APPEAR IN THE PRINTED CATALOGUE. Launched at the 1993 Brussels Motor Show, the Fiat Coupe featured radical angular styling by Chris Bangle (later of BMW fame) and had a classically Italian interior with a painted steel dashboard designed by Pininfarina. The 5-cylinder twin-cam engine was an updated version of that used in the legendary Lancia Delta Integrale and, in 2-litre 20-valve form as here, it produced 148bhp and 137lb/ft of torque, sufficient for a 0-60mph time of 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 134mph. With excellent handling, strong brakes, a 5-speed gearbox and seating for four adults, it was a very capable sportscar with eye-catching good looks and is a sure-fire classic of the future. Just 72,762 examples of all types were made before production came to an end in 2000 and only 2,021 are still UK registered today making them a rare sight on the roads. This 1998 example has had just two owners from new and has only covered around 62,300 miles with a large history file showing 8 service stamps, the last in July this year, plus many other invoices including a recent new clutch. Finished in silver with a black leather interior equipment includes power steering, electric windows, ABS brakes and radio/CD. Supplied with three keys (including the red one) it is taxed until January, MOTd until July 2014 and is ready to drive away today.
