Lot 203: Triumph Spitfire MK III

Auction of Cars, Historics at Brooklands (30 November 2013)

The Triumph Spitfire introduced at The London Motor Show in 1962 was based on a design produced for Standard Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti who went on to design the Triumph Stag. In 1965 the Spitfire Mk. II was launched with the same 1147cc engine but more highly tuned. Sporting a new grill, badges and an improved interior the Mk. II was produced until 1967. In March the Mk. III arrived boasting a 1296cc engine and the first major facelift for the marque including a folding hood. This Mk. III model registered on the 1st August 1970 was to reside in Surrey with its lady owner until 2005 when the proprietor of the local garage who serviced and looked after it bought this lovely, original car. With only very light use on 'high-days and holidays', the warranted mileage stands at just 32,350. Finished in Saffron Yellow with a tan interior this striking little sports car performed well, turning heads and drawing smiles when on test. Complete with a factory hardtop, V5 registration document, MoT test certificate and a Historic Road Fund License, it also has the original hand book and old MoT test certificates and bills. This is a great opportunity to own an iconic English sports car which is now becoming a rare sight on our roads, especially such an original example with an excellent provenance.
