Overview
From 1972, Al Barmettler produced a number of buggies and Beetle conversions. The 'Sonic' of 1982 was a futuristic wedge-shaped Targa-top car based on Beetle running gear. In 1985 it was joined by a 2+2 coupe (also called 'Sonic') which had a bespoke chassis, a mid-mounted VW Golf engine, and slightly more sober lines. It sold less well than the more outrageous version.
