Mercedes added two unusual long wheelbase sports Coupes to its SL range in 1972, the 350SLC and 450SLC. Both cars shared the same extended SL wheelbase which featured four seat accommodation and a fixed coupe roof. Behind the front door on each side was a 1/4 window which was partially covered by a louvered panel for extra privacy.
The 350SLC used the 3.5 litre V8 whilst the 450SLC used the more powerful 4.5 litre unit. Both cars weighed more than their equivalent two-seat SL counterparts although performance was still good. Although perhaps not the best looking SL derivative these impressive coupes sold well up-until 1980.
