By the mid-1980's the Fiat group had begun to rationalise it chassis/platforms so that the same body could be used on different Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia models, as is now common practice with most other motor manufacturing groups.
The First of these shared-platform models to appear from Fiat was the 1986 Croma. It shared its five door hatchback body with the Alfa Romeo 164 and Lancia Thema and came only as a two litre model, although in 90bhp or 120bhp form. In addition even more power was available from the 155bhp Croma Turbo.
