Austin Sprite

Overview
Produced: 1971-1971, 1022 produced.
Types: Sports,2 doors,2 seats

Confusingly British Leyland decided to rename its Austin Healey Sprite as simply Austin Sprite, this was due to the demise of the Austin Healey brand. The Sprite's were really badge engineered MG Midgets which sold in greater numbers throughout the life of the two parallel models, despite the fact that model was a development of the original Austin Healey "Frogeye" Sprite.

To identify these last Sprite models the sill (rocker) panels are painted in matt black and the name badges were obviously changed. The Sprites now had Rostyle wheels and different front grilles to give them a more up-to-date look for the fashion conscious 70's.

Austin Sprites were discontinued in 1971, the MG Midget carried on in production until the MG marque disappeared in 1979.
