This strange vehicle is really a Morris taxi cab built by Wolseley in limited quantities from 1950-1955. The Oxford Hire Car was based on Morris commercial running gear and had vintage style "artillery" wheels which must have been immensely strong and ideal for its hard working life!
Power came from an overhead valve, four cylinder engine of 1800cc which harked back to the old pre-war Oxford 14/28 model. Most cars had upright taxi cab coachwork although a handful of limousines were also built, all carrying the Morris style front grille.
