Launched at the same time as the Mini and Triumph Herald came the new small Ford, the Anglia 105E. The Anglia was once again bang- up to-date in terms of styling, although it was hardly in the same mould breaking category as the Mini. Ford had finally seen sense and had ditched the pre-war designed sidevalve engine and replaced it with a new overhead valve 997cc unit mated to a new four speed gearbox.

The Anglia's most recognisable feature was its "reverse slope" rear window which together with the cars pointed fins made it quite striking. The Anglia came as either a two door saloon or as a two door estate and in either basic or de-luxe trim levels. Production continued until the arrival of the Escort in 1967 with over 1,000,000 cars being made.

Although the Anglia was finished its engine would stay in production in modified form for many years to come. The engine can still be found (in fuel injected form) in today's small Ford line-up including the kA and Fiesta.
