In 1966 Ford launched its new Cortina Mk II. As with the original Cortina Mk I (1962-1966) the new Cortina range included standard, Super and GT variants along with a choice of engine and transmission types. The Cortina Mk II featured a new bodyshell which had angular lines and a full width grille not dissimilar to that of the Zephyr/Zodiac Mk IV.

Ford Cortina Mk II buyers could choose between either a 1300, (1297cc) or 1500 (1498cc) four cylinder engine and from 1968 a 1600 (1599cc) replaced the earlier 1500 unit. Front disc brakes were standard and all engines used a five bearing crankshaft for smoothness. The Cortina Mk II sold well in its four year production run and was eventually replaced in 1970 by the slightly larger Cortina Mk III.
