The model was launched in the UK in January 1980, and had been around since November 1979 as the Opel Kadett. Replaced the Vauxhall Viva. Vauxhall's first front-wheel drive car that was aimed directly at the Volkswagen Golf MK1 as well as the upcoming Ford Escort MK3.
