When Peugeot introduced the 206 in 1998, it was obvious that this concept-car was a preview of a forthcoming coupé/convertible in the 206 range, since there has always been a convertible in the 200 series. The final 206 cc was Introduced in late 2000 / derived from the 3-door hatchback, it's distinguishable by a very sloping windshield, a decklid including a fake luggage rack, and a diminutive retractable hardtop, thus the cockpit is rather small. This roof, which has been designed and is manufactured by Heuliez, requires a manual unlocking but otherwise is power operated. Without competition until the arrival of Opel Tigra Twintop, Nissan Micra c+c and Mitsubishi Colt Convertible, the 206 cc has been a great commercial success : more than 360 000 have been sold. Available with petrol 1.6 and 2.0 engines right away, the 206 cc has not evolved much during its lifetime / along with the whole range, it has been slightly restyled in april 2003 : new headlight and taillight graphism, better cockpit trim. In april 2005, a diesel 1.6 hdi version has been unveiled and will probably boost sales until the car is replaced in March 2007 by the 207 cc.
