The Triumph range had been selling well in the all important US export market since the TR2 first appeared in 1953, with the arrival of the TR5 Triumph felt that the US model should be more individual. The TR5 used a new Fuel Injection system on its new six cylinder engine which unfortunately could not be made to meet federal emission regulations, therefore the US only TR250 would twin Stromberg use carburettors.

The TR250 looked very similar to its European counterpart the TR5, the main distinguishing feature being a racey coloured stripe that ran across the bonnet (hood) panel. Due mainly to the twin carbs the TR250 struggled to produce any more than 105bhp and performance suffered as a result.
