It was not easy for Citroen to follow the great successes of the Traction Avant, 2 CV, DS, and GS.  Whether their designers have done so is a question of personal taste.  The CX appeared in 1974, looking rather like a larger GS.  The engine was now transverse mounted under the bonnet and was available with turbo and also with a diesel.  The engine capacity grew from 1,885 to 2,500 cc with power increasing from 102-170 bhp.
