Since
The Mk IX had a body identical to that used on the previous Mk VIII, although it did have an improved heater and a new badge to distinguish it!. This handsome saloon came with power steering, all-round disc brakes and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. At the time the Mk IX was considered on par with the then current Bentley S-type, even though it was a third of the price...
The Mk IX was finally superseded by the Mk X in
Further information submitted:
There is no doubt that the Jaguar Mk IX Saloon would out-perform the equivalent 3.8 Mk X, its successor (1961-64).
The Autocar Used Car Road Test No 200, dated 14 November 1962, on an automatic transmission Mk IX gave performance figures of 0-60mph in 10.1 secs, 30-70mph through the autobox in 9.1secs and a standing quarter mile in 17.6secs. This vehicle had a recorded mileage of 34,000-odd at the time.
The manual/overdrive model was no doubt a genuine 120mph car in overdrive top!
