1950-1956, 40663 produced.
An early type F9 could be admired at the Leipzig trade fair in 1948. In contrast to the pre-war and immediate post-war DKW cars, the F9 had a three-cylinder engine which had been under development by Auto-Union in 1939. This two stroke engine was 900 cc and produced 28 bhp at 3,600 rpm. Its price of 13,200 Ostmark was outside the ordinary person's reach. At least these prices were too high for those living in East Germany but in the West these cars were among the cheapest on the market. The F9 cars were built at the former Audi factory in Zwickau but from 1953 production was moved to the former BMW factory in Eisenach.
