In 1975 Leyland unveiled its new "wedge" range of cars which would later be commonly referred to as the "Princess". The Morris version of the "18-22 Series" was named 1800 or 2200 depending on the chosen engine size. This idiotic choice of model name must have confused existing Morris customers as the previous models shared the same names!

The "new" 1800/2200 shared the "wedge" body with the Austin and Wolseley variants but could be distinguished from the Austin by its four round headlamps, the Wolseley had a more ornate grille. Mechanically the "new" 1800 and 2200 used the well proven engines found in the earlier models, suspension was of the new Hydragas type.

The "wedge" range lasted only one year before Leyland rationalised the range, a Morris version was no longer available and so ended the Morris 1800/2200 saga after 10 years of production in its different forms.
